Top Gambling Movies to Inspire Your Game

by Bodog Casino | Dec 5 2008

Everybody needs some sort of inspiration in order to put out their best performance. 14-time gold medalist Michael Phelps listens to Lil Wayne before he blasts the competition, and some pro athletes will even watch a sports highlight-reel or two to get them hype.

So why wouldn’t us casino players do the same? We’ve outlined some of the best songs to get you primed for a long online casino session, now we’re giving you the top casino movies that’ll put you in the gambling mood.

21 (2008)
Not the greatest or most realistic depiction of professional card counting but this flick will definitely get you itching for some blackjack. “21” is the fact-based story of six MIT students who become experts in card counting and take Vegas casinos for millions.

Dr. No (1962)
James Bond is the coolest cat in history. Men want to be him, and the ladies want to get with him. Although this 1962 flick starring Sean Connery as Bond isn’t really about gambling, the opening scene, where Bond plays some baccarat versus a female socialite, is so damn cool it’ll have you jonesing for a vodka martini while you load up the Bodog Casino.

Casino Royale (2006)
Bond again? Damn straight. Bond loves to gamble - with his money and his life - and his passion for going all-in shines in “Casino Royale”. He enters a high-stakes poker game in order to bankrupt a banker who works for various terrorist organizations.

Croupier (1998)
This flick is for those that believe certain casino dealers indeed are bad luck. Clive Owen plays a dealer/struggling writer who enjoys watching his customers lose their shirt at his tables.

Rounders (1998)
Matt Damon is a reformed gambler who returns to high-stakes poker when his loser friend owes a boatload of cash to loan sharks. You’ll be hard pressed not to use lines from this flick while playing Caribbean Stud Poker or Caribbean Holdem.

Ocean’s Eleven (2001 or 1960)
We’ve all thought about it while chilling in a casino “is it possible to rob this place without getting caught?” Danny Ocean and his crew prove that not only is it possible (in the movies), but you can do it in style.

The Cincinnati Kid (1965)
If Bond is the coolest fictional character ever Steve McQueen holds the crown as the coolest in real life. McQueen is the king of chill playing a young poker player looking to knock off one of the game’s masters. The flick has an ending most gamblers wouldn’t expect.

The Sting (1973)
Since it’s pretty much impossible to cheat in casinos today, you can live vicariously through Paul Newman and Robert Redford. “The Sting” is about a pair of Chicago con artists look to pull off the ultimate scam on a nasty mob boss.

Casino (1995)
If this classic doesn’t at least get you in the mood for the Vegas nightlife, we don’t know what will. Casino gives the beautiful and brutal details of handicapper Sam “Ace” Rothstein and a mob-controlled Las Vegas in the 1970s and ‘80s. Seeing as it’s a Martin Scorsese flick, expect to see lots of “wacking” and lots of f-bombs. But also expect to long for some gaming once the movie’s over.
