Macau's casinos  have been having a banner year which is no surprise to analysts as Chinese gamblers continue to make their new found wealth felt. What has been somewhat of a surprise though is the astonishing first year success of neighbouring Singapore's two new casino resorts. Business has been so good that if the current trend continues, Singapore will officially take over the number two spot in global gaming revenue from Las Vegas by year's end.

Currently there are only the two casinos in Singapore and they have a government granted monopoly on the market until 2017. The Resorts World Sentosa is operated by Malaysian mega corporation Genting  which has aggressively grown its casino operations in recent years. The Resorts World Sentosa earned 664.5 million for the first quarter of 2011 and grew 35% quarter on quarter. The Marina Bay Sands Resort, owned by Sheldon Adelson  and Las Vegas Sands Corporation, earned 464.6 million in the same quarter. Together both resorts are anticipated to earn almost 6.4 billion dollars for the year which would put Singapore ahead of Las Vegas' anticipated 2011 gross revenues of 5.8 billion. Neither will soon catch Macau however, which sits securely in the global number one spot with revenues of over 32 billion dollars last year.

In somewhat ironic news, the Detroit City Police announced that their new headquarters will be situated in the building that formerly housed the MGM Grand Casino. The police are looking to move on from their antiquated current headquarters which was built in 1920. The vastly bigger former casino space is located downtown should be ready by 2013. The building will also house the Detroit Fire and EMS services along with crime and forensics labs.
