Casino News: Casino Refuses to Pay $55 Million Slots Jackpot
by Bodog Casino | Feb 22 2011
Another live casino has refused to pay a player's huge jackpot win.
Ly Sam, a Vietnamese American, is involved in a bitter lawsuit with the Sheraton Saigon Hotel’s Palazzo Club in Ho Chi Minh City after the casino refused to pay out his $55 million win on the Landlord Game
slot machine.
Sam won the jackpot on Oct. 29, 2009 and was told he would receive payment in three days. However, when he asked for written confirmation of the win the manager refused to comply.
Smart enough to not trust the manager, Sam then composed his own report, got witness signatures and took photos of the winning machine and combination. His concerns were obviously well founded because days later his calls to the casino were being ignored.
Eventually Sam was contacted by the club’s operator, Dai Duong Joint Venture Company, and was told no payment would be coming. In the letter written by Dai Duong affiliate Ewarton Consultancy Co., Ltd, Sam Ly was informed that “The winning result was invalid because it had resulted from something wrong that happened to the game machine.”
Ah the old “machine malfunction” excuse. Every live casino seems to use it at least once.
The situation has become the biggest lawsuit in Vietnam history, as Sam is suing Dai Duong for the entire amount.
“Dai Duong Joint Venture must pay the money,” Sam’s lawyer Tran Cong Ly Tao said. “Players pay money to play and so when a player wins, the game operator must pay the winner…Even the Penal Code can be based on to charge the game operator with abusing trust to appropriate assets.”
Unless Vietnam has some kooky laws Sam should get every cent. The evidence is clearly in his favor as he took the proper precautions all casino players should take when they win a huge jackpot.
Live or online, all players should take a photo of the big win to confirm it. Players should also get written confirmation from a live casino or, in the case of
online casinos, at least see the dollar amount in their account.
The first thing a player should do, however, is make sure they’re playing at an honest venue in the first place. Though we can’t confirm you rarely hear cases like this happening at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. As for the online realm, the Bodog Casino has been a trusted spot for paying its players for over 15 years.
