Casino MonteLago at Lake Las Vegas Resort Closes

As more casinos seem to open throughout various U.S. cities, more seem to close in Sin City.

Multibillion dollar, super sized casinos like the CityCenter and The Cosmopolitan are being built on The Strip but the recession is hitting the smaller casinos in Vegas, namely the Casino MonteLago at the Lake Las Vegas Resort is closing.

Gaming Control Board Chairman Dennis Neilander says his agency was notified Tuesday that the casino would be shutting down.

Unfortunately the MonteLago won't be the only casino closing in the area, the nearby Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas resort will be closing as well. Essentially if things keep going the way they are The Strip will be the only place where you can get your game on.

Officials say 177 casino jobs will be lost and employees will be paid for just 60 days.

Casino MonteLago opened in 2003 at the 3,600-acre residential, hotel and golf resort development 20 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip. The casino was small by Vegas standards, with 635 slot machines, 12 table games a racebook and sportsbook and two restaurants.

Does this places closing mean the end of the small casino in Vegas? It appears to be that way. With gigantic venues like Caesars Palace and the Bellagio struggling to grab tourists during the current recession in the United States smaller, older, Vegas venues that were already having problems getting people's attention are going down.

Fremont Street has been struggling to get tourists attention despite having dollar shrimp and a neon light show.

Our suggestion? Unless you plan on taking a Vegas vacation, the place to get your game on nowadays is online. Eventually, everybody will be heading online in our opinion unless you have an itch to play in a casino and check out Cirque du Soleil.

The best part about it is it will be much cheaper in the long run. Unlike Vegas you don't have to get a plane ticket to get online.
