Casino Lingo: Talk the Talk
by Bodog Casino | Oct 20 2010
We think it's reggae artist Buju Banto who once said if you want to walk like a champion, talk like a champion, and there's truth to that when it comes to casino gaming.
Although it pays a pretty penny to know how each casino game works and how to win consistently, it also pays to know all the lingo.
That's why, in order to ensure you talk the talk while you walk the walk, we've got some lingo to teach you.
The Shooter
If someone asks you to be "the shooter" at a Craps table don't freak out and tell security, grab those dice and roll away! The shooter in Craps is the dude that gets to have all the fun, he rolls the dice while the crowd gets behind him. Why? Because the shooter holds every craps bettor's fate in his hand. How cool is that?
Double Down
We're sure you've heard this plenty while watching someone play Blackjack. That's because it's one of the most commonly used casino terms you'll ever hear. The way it works in Blackjack is simple: When a Player has been dealt the first two cards and believes that the third card will give them a position to beat the Dealer's hand, they can "double down" their bet to win double the cash.
Progressive Jackpot
If you have any buddies that enjoy a good slot machine you've heard these words before. A progressive jackpot is better than any other slot jackpot 90 percent of the time. Why? Because it a jackpot that continues to grow until someone wins it. It can get well into the million dollar range if people haven't won a while making it even sexier for bettors. Right now the Bodog Casino has two slots, the Mid-Life Crisis and Shopping Spree slots, that have progressive jackpots at $1 million!
Come Out Roll
You may not know this but there's a name for your first roll in Craps. It's called the "come out roll," it's the first roll in a Craps round. If you roll a 7 or 11 you win. If you roll a 2 or 3 you lose and if you grab anything else you try to roll the same number again on your second roll.
No Limit
If you ever step at a Blackjack table with "no limit" on it you better have the bankroll. No limit means what it sounds like, there's is no limit to the amount you can wager on every hand. Generally you'll see high-rollers using these tables so unless you're paid like that Facebook kid then don't bother.
