Casino City Holds Job Protests While Republican Hopefuls Posture

Casino and Construction Marchers Soberest People Seen On Freemont Street in Weeks"Sticking it to the Man" never felt sweeter then it did last week when a group of 500 protestors marched up and down the
casino lined sidewalks of the Freemont Street Experience in Las Vegas. As part of the current ongoing movement spawned by the "Occupy Wall Street" protest, the Occupy Las Vegas protest was by all accounts a huge success with marchers calling for more jobs and wealth equity. Although Las Vegas at first may seem like the last place in the world that such a gathering would take place, there are a few factors that make Las Vegas a good choice.

Enjoy the best in online slots and table games like Caribbean Stud and Blackjack from the comfort of home.Currently Las Vegas is suffering the dual whammies of both domestic and international recessions which means both Americans and the rest of the world are staying at home and not playing
Baccarat . Although the bigger Strip casinos have started to show modest signs of rebounding things are still tough all over in the city of Lost Wages. Layoffs have been constant over the last 18 months with the construction and trade industries hit the hardest as building work of any kind has come to a complete stop across the city. Unemployment is hitting unprecedented highs with the jobless rate peaking at just over 14% in August against a national U.S. average of 9.1 %.
Compounding the issue are the fact that at least two hotel and casinos could be in possible trouble with the Hilton and Hooters properties struggling with large debt loads. Although both groups are working hard to stay in business, the cold reality could mean more unemployed walking the sidewalks looking for work in the near future.
The Venetian Casino and Hotel Hosts Republican Twiddle TwaddleThe "I can cut more taxes than you can" sideshow also steamrolled into Las Vegas last week as Republican contenders looked to get a leg up on their competitors as part of the ongoing nationwide debates. There is no clear front runner at this time but at least the race has become compelling if only to watch the contestants, err, presidential hopefuls try to smile and shiv one another at the same time. These folks would be killer
Caribbean Stud players.
Las Vegas may sound like an odd place to hold a debate but the Venetian is owned by
Sheldon Adelson who is a noted contributor to conservative causes. Intriguingly, the very right-leaning Tea Party organization was being sued by the Venetian to the tune of almost $700,000 for a last minute convention cancellation just a couple of months ago. With the Republican debates suddenly filling up lots of Venetian hotel space the question must be asked- are two birds being killed with one conservative stone here? Read all about it
here.
At any rate, the usual array of topics were covered and again the debate seems to devolve down to who would be the meanest towards the most disenfranchised segments of the population. The Immigration debate got rather spicy with Mitt Romney accusing former frontrunner Rick Perry of "loving illegal immigrants". Unless there is something that Rick Perry isn't telling America about his amore viva, it must be assumed that Romney meant that Perry surprisingly voted to give Texas state health benefits to existing non-documented illegal aliens. How about some green cards Mr. Presidential hopeful for all the probable illegals on Vegas streets handing out the rather saucy flyers advertising 1-900 numbers?
At the end of the day it was ironic that in a city with an unemployment rate 50% higher than the national average no one really wanted to talk about their job plan as it might entail them saying that they would actually spend some money. Ultimately no one was physically injured in the scrappy melee and the debates will resume in Michigan. Who will face President Obama next year remains a bit of a crapshoot but thankfully it appears it will not be Newt Gingrich.
