Best of Vegas Part XXI: Spectacular Spas

by Jacqueline Mayhew | Nov 23 2007

Everyone knows that Las Vegas has the market cornered on gambling, drinking, strip clubs, eating and even shopping. But as Sin City expands, it continues to cater to an ever-widening demographic. The latest trend is high-end spas.

Women are a major part of Las Vegas tourism, and a full day in Vegas now might involve a game of golf, some Blackjack or slot machines at the casino, then some dinner and finally some wind-down time at the spa.

If you're heading to Vegas and you’re looking to enjoy an eclectic day like that, Bodog Nation has done the homework for you and proudly presents the top-five spas in Las Vegas.

No. 1 - Spa Bellagio

Spa Bellagio is ridiculous… ridiculously extravagant, that is. It was recently given a renovation that has doubled its size to 55,000 square feet with 54 treatments rooms.

Special Bellagio Spa Packages:

  • Mother and Daughter Package
Tea and scones never tasted so good as when you're enjoying them in a milk bath while getting a pedicure in a private suite. Also, the anti-aging skin treatments will leave you walking away with smooth, rejuvenated skin.

  • Girlfriends Package
Enjoy a Polynesian-style bathing ritual along with extravagant manicures and pedicures. Float around and have drinks with your BFF before being treated to lunch by Chef Jean-Philippe. No, we don't know who that is either, but it's probably safe to say that he knows his way around the kitchen.

  • Couples Package
You and your significant other will be treated to romantic manicures and pedicures in a candlelit room surrounded by champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries.

Watsu TreatmentIf you're a spa veteran, Spa Bellagio is a great place to try something different with their signature treatment, Watsu. What's Watsu? It's what you get when you combine water with Zen Shiatsu. The Watsu therapist cradles you in a special pool of water heated to your body temperature. She then twirls you around in the water (not joking here) as she stretches and bends your body. It's a surprisingly relaxing experience that may cause you to revert to an infantile state and start sucking your thumb. But what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, so suck away!

No. 2 - Canyon Ranch SpaClub at The Venetian

The size (69,000 square feet) and sheer number of options available at the Canyon Ranch Spaclub make it a great choice. You can find almost anything you’re looking for here, from the spa basics, to a climbing wall, to lectures on nutrition.

Located in the ever-popular Venetian Hotel, you'll never be far from all of its wonderful amenities as well. This includes an indoor shopping area modeled after Venice, complete with canals, gondolas and restaurants by top chefs like Emeril, not to mention their elegant casino.

No. 3 - Spa Vita di Lago at The Ritz-Carlton

MassageThis 30,000 square-foot spa is a great place for spa novices who might not know what they want. The Spa Vita di Lago is best known for its "Spa 101" package. It's the party-platter of the spa world with a spa-going tutorial. It also offers guided programs in stargazing (in case you didn't know how to look at stars), hiking and mountain biking. It is also the only spa in the U.S. with La Culla, a multi-sensory steam cocoon treatment.

And for those of you who just hit a jackpot in the casino, they have a $2,000 facial. And if your husband’s jaw drops at the sound of this, just point him in the direction of the Gentlemen's Pedicure and Beer Tasting treatment. Yes, it's real, and yes, it's brilliant.

No. 4 - The Spa at Wynn Las Vegas

Wynn's 45 treatment rooms can provide you with massages, body treatments, facials and hydrotherapy. It has separate women's and men's facilities with showers (shocking, we know), steam rooms, saunas and whirlpools. Lockers along with spa robes and slippers are provided, as well as various hair and body care amenities.

Wynn has some excellent massage options including Shiatsu, couples and pregnancy massages, but it's their body treatments that are truly exceptional.

Body Treatments:

  • Rain Stone Ritual
Your therapist applies nine essential oils, including oregano, thyme and marjoram, before delivering a full-body hot-stone massage. You might end up smelling like a tasty treat, but you'll feel like a million bucks.

  • Brown Sugar Body Treatment
This skin treatment uses a light, warming massage with sugar-infused formulas to nourish and rejuvenate your skin.

No. 5 - Four Seasons Spa

As usual with the Four Seasons, the spa is elegant and refined. It has 16 treatments rooms and a large steam room facility. What you won't want to miss and what gets the Four Seasons Spa on this list is their specialty, Jamu massage therapy.

Jamu is a meditative massage that combines Hindu, Chinese and European techniques and involves acupressure, stroking massage techniques and vibrations used to invigorate muscles.
